Vision System

Machine Vision ties together a camera, industrial hardware and software to provide on-line inspection services at high speed. Using an Allen-Bradley vision system and PLC, I installed the system mechanically, wrote the PLC logic, and configured the vision parameters to inspect plastic bottles on an aseptic filling line.

The system was coupled behind a machine which oriented the empty bottles. In 'real-time' it ejected bottles that were oriented backward, and those that were deformed. This eliminated what had been significant downtime at a downstream device, where the backward and deformed bottles caused jamming and machine misalignment.

I believe this was the first vision system operating in the Foods Division of this Fortune 100 company. While others were added to inspect empty cans, this was the only one (perhaps even to today) installed with in-house staff.
