Truck Unloading Ramps

Truck Unloading Ramps
Two techniques are used to unload fruit from trailers.  A stationary hill or ramp, where the truck backs downhill, or hydraulic ramps which lift the truck and trailer.  Much steeper inclines can be reached with hydraulic ramps, improving the flow of fruit, and reducing wear and tear on the truck.  Unfortunately, the pit for the hydraulic rams collects trash that can be difficult to remove, at times flooding the pit with leaves, fruit, limbs and water.

By visiting neighboring plants, I was able to design and build a system that included the best of both worlds.  By keeping a small stationary incline, the pit normally associated with ramps is completely eliminated.  This eliminates the need for systems to remove fruit, oil, leaves and limbs from the pit.  It also simplified construction in our wet, Florida soils.

With extensive use of CAD drawings and email, the fine-tuning of the design between ourselves and the out-of-state manufacturer was completed in days instead of weeks.  The result was a system that was completed ahead of schedule, and on budget.  Installation was a simple matter of erection of the unit, on preformed piers.
