Concentrate Tank Farm

Concentrate Tank Farm
Citrus concentrate tank farmThe flavor of your orange or grapefruit juice is as much about storage as any other single factor.  There are flavor differences from variety to variety and at different times of the season.  (Try a grapefruit in November or early December and you will know what I mean!)

The "right" way to build a tank farm is to build the foundation and slab (usually with glycol tracing and floor pitch), then bring in prefabricated tank sections to assemble on site, and finally to build the building around it and install all the piping systems.

If you are trying to utilize an existing facility, you don't have those luxuries!  We had to gut an existing process, rip up and replace the floor (with that glycol tracing system and appropriate floor pitch), build the tanks in-place, sheet by sheet, and finally connect it all together.

In the process, we added ultrasonic tank level sensors (relatively new to the industry at that time) and provisions to passivate the tanks and piping before use (also relatively new to the industry at that time).  At the other end, we tied it into automated blending and CIP systems.

With considerable attention to the piping design and manufacturing detail, we not only had and on-time and in-budget startup (important), but every micro swab and product sample was clean from day one (critical).
